Vietnam’s Agricultural Exports Hit 33.84 Billion USD in H1 2025; Annual Goal is 70 Billion USD

According to Nhân Dân Online, Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has reported impressive export figures for the country’s agro-forestry-fishery sector in the first half of 2025. The total export value reached $33.84 billion, representing a 15.5% increase compared to the same period in 2024.1

Three major product categories stood out by exceeding the $5 billion export threshold:

  • Wood and wood products reached $8.21 billion, marking an 8.9% year-on-year increase.
  • Coffee exports rose sharply to $5.45 billion, a remarkable 67.5% increase.
  • Fishery products totaled $5.16 billion, up 16.9% from the previous year.

Looking forward, tariffs and quality control remain significant challenges for Vietnam’s agro-forestry-fishery exports.

A 20% tariff rate on Vietnamese exports to the United States was announced on July 2, 2025, though further details are yet to be released. On the quality control side, durians exported to China in 2024 were found to contain cadmium levels exceeding safety limits, affecting both farmers and related businesses.2 Additionally, exports to the European Union must meet strict pesticide residue requirements, which continue to pose technical and regulatory hurdles.

The Vietnamese government has set an ambitious export target of $70 billion for agro-forestry-fishery products in 2025. The strong performance in the first half of the year suggests that this goal is within reach. However, meeting it will require effective responses to evolving global standards, ongoing tariff negotiations, and increased focus on environmental and food safety compliance.
